Unniappam

Unniappam
Unniappam is a small round shaped rice cake sweet made out of rice, jaggery, ripe banana, ghee/oil. This is one of the famous Sweets of Kerala.it is considered as a favourite dish which Unni kannan The name for this sweets comes like this, in Malayalam language Unni means small and appam means rice cake.
my grandma cooks it and its one of my favorite item.........hope everyone like it tooooo


Ingredients  
Raw Rice - 1 cup
Jaggery - 1 cup
Ripe Banana - 1 medium size
Coconut thinly slices - 1 Tablespoon
Cardamom - 4
Baking Soda - 1 small pinch(optional)


Method


 1: Soak the raw rice for 2 hrs.Grind the rice
 2:  In a pan put jaggery and melt it with little water then add cardamom and banana to a smooth batter like dosa batter .
 3: Remove the batter to a dish and keep aside, let it ferment for at least 6 hrs ( I normally grind this at night and will leave it to ferment till morning and and make it morning itself.
 4: Just before making the unniappam, add the baking soda and the thinly sliced coconuts fried in ghee, mix well.
 4: Heat the Appa Chatti in medium heat add grease with little Oil
 5: Once its ready pour each whole with little batter and wait for 5 minutes or till the batter is cooked turn and cook till its gets a nice golden brown color.
 6: Remove the Unniappams from the Appachatti  to a tissue and drain the excess oil or ghee from it.
 7: This can be served warm or in room temperature.
 8:Store it in airtight container and it will be good for 4 days.
